SAFER CLICKS
Helping adults guide children safely through the digital world with trust, understanding, and confidence.
Safer Clicks
About the Project
Safer Clicks: A–Z of Safeguarding Children in the Digital World is a practical, accessible toolkit designed to support parents, carers, educators, and community practitioners.
The project grew from conversations with families, teachers, and youth workers who shared the same concern:
Children are growing up online faster than adults are learning how to guide them.
Many adults feel overwhelmed. Many young people feel they cannot always talk openly about what happens online. Safer Clicks was created to bridge that gap, with practical guidance that works in real life.
Why the Project Matters
The online world brings opportunity, connection, and learning.
But it also brings real risks.
Children today face:
-
Online bullying and peer pressure
-
Exposure to harmful or misleading content
-
Grooming and exploitation risks
-
Social media pressures and body image concerns
-
Gaming environments with communication risks
-
Digital inequality and barriers to safe access
-
Increased vulnerability for children with additional needs
What we know is this:
Children are often more confident with technology than adults, but not always more prepared for the emotional and social risks.
And when children feel judged, they often stop talking.
Safer Clicks focuses on helping adults build trust, confidence, and open conversation, because these are the foundations of real safeguarding.
Who Developed Safer Clicks
Safer Clicks was developed by Vox Feminarum: Women’s Voices, a community organisation committed to strengthening families, safeguarding children, and supporting communities through education and practical resources.
The toolkit is informed by:
-
Community engagement
-
Safeguarding practice
-
Education and youth work
-
Lived experience
Funding and Support
Safer Clicks is funded by Derbyshire Police through the Police and Crime Commissioner’s Safer and Stronger Communities Fund.
We are grateful for the support of Nicolle Ndiweni and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for recognising the importance of prevention, early education, and community-led safeguarding.
This support helps ensure that families, schools, and communities have access to tools that make a real difference.
Our Approach
Safer Clicks is built on three principles:
Connection before correction
Children speak honestly when they feel safe.
Education before restriction
Understanding helps children make safer choices.
Support before judgement
How adults respond to mistakes shapes whether children ask for help next time.
The toolkit uses a trauma-informed, child-centred approach grounded in safeguarding practice and lived experience.
